Northwest Missouri State University Admissions

Northwest Missouri considers its admission process and criteria fairly selective. Admissions decisions are made based on a combination of SAT/ACT scores, class rank, and high school grade point average. The writing component of the ACT test is not required. Students who transfer to Northwest Missouri State must have a grade point average of 2.00 in at least 24 hours of transferable credit. For those students who may need some assistance, NMSU offers the Enhanced Freshman Seminar for first-time freshmen who have great potential and require the proper support. Students in the Enhanced Freshman Seminar have demonstrated areas of weakness and are required to participate as a requisite for enrollment. Incoming freshmen are offered the opportunity to participate in SOAR—Summer Orientation, Advisement, and Registration. This gives freshmen some exposure to campus life and helps to ease the transition into the University.

Northwest Missouri State University recommends that students apply for admission in the November and December preceding the fall term in which they wish to enroll. The application fee is $25 for paper applications; there is no fee for on-line applications. Students who are enrolled in high school at the time of application will need to have their official final high school transcripts sent after graduation to the Admissions Office.
